Rehabilitation Programs

We offer the following outpatient rehabilitation programs:

Adaptive Driving
A driving assessment program to individuals that have experienced a medical disability, helping them regain mobility and independence. A.D.E.P.T. is designed to determine if a patient has the sophisticated level of physical and cognitive skills necessary to operate a motor vehicle safely.

Amputee Clinic
HealthSouth Harmarville offers a weekly amputee clinic providing the expertise of clinicians who work with patients who have suffered an amputation. The team includes a physiatrist, prosthetist, physical therapist and vocational counselor. Pre and post prosthetic care is provided to all amputee patients.

Arthritis
For many people the pain of osteoarthritis can become so severe that it disrupts normal living. Caring for yourself becomes difficult, and handling family or work responsibilities may become impossible. HealthSouth's arthritis rehabilitation program helps an individual reduce and manage their pain while increasing their independence.

Balance and Vestibular
Through a multidisciplinary team approach, this program evaluates patients with persistent dizziness or disequilibrium. This multidisciplinary team evaluation allows for a timely and more accurate diagnosis of the condition, thus enabling more appropriate intervention.

Brain Injury
Early rehabilitation is critical to help patients achieve their fullest potential after brain injury. HealthSouth has established a rehabilitation program that helps patients achieve and maximize functional and cognitive recovery following a brain injury. The program enables patients to become more self-sufficient and understand how to avoid future health problems.

Dialysis
HealthSouth Harmarville provides on-site dialysis on Monday, Wednesday and Friday following the patient’s therapy program so as not to interfere. Some insurance companies require patients to receive dialysis off-site, however, Harmarville assists in scheduling the transportation for these patients to get to and from their appointment.

Diagnostic Services
HealthSouth Harmarville provides general radiology and fluoroscopic exams in addition to CT scans without contrast. Urodymanic studies and phlebotomy/lab services are also provided. All Ultrasound studies are completed with the exception of OB studies.

Functional Capacity Evaluations
HealthSouth’s Functional Capacity Evaluation identifies the current physical and functional abilities of the patient and determines the patient's potential to return to work and/or if further rehabilitation is required. If indicated, rehabilitation is initiated to progress the injured worker to the highest level of physical functioning required to safely return to productive gainful employment.

General Rehabilitation
HealthSouth’s General Rehabilitation Program provides comprehensive medical rehabilitation services for individuals who have experienced a decline in their physical and cognitive abilities. This decline may be due to an illness or other medical condition. Our General Rehabilitation Program is designed to help patients maximize functional independence; maximize emotional well-being; and resume their previous roles or modified roles at work, home or leisure.

Hand Therapy
This treatment of the hand and/or upper extremity is offered by extensively trained therapists specializing in this area. A comprehensive evaluation of the hand and upper extremity is completed to determine the most appropriate interventions. Conditions treated include arthritis and rheumatic diseases, hand injuries, industrial accidents/work injuries, lymphedema, orthopedic conditions, stroke, spinal cord and other neurological disorders. Treatment programs include custom static and dynamic splinting; fracture, sprain, and tendonitis programs to manage pain and/or recover range of motion and strength; post-surgical and post-trauma intervention; management of the neurological hand / upper extremity to maximize functional use; rehabilitation technologies including Saebo Flex, Reo, Bioness, and Interactive Metronome.

Industrial Rehab
The HealthSouth Industrial Rehab program model is an aggressive "results-oriented" approach designed to transition people back to work. The Industrial Rehabilitation Program is a vital component of the HealthSouth Injury Management and Evaluation Services model. Functional Restoration is a conceptual model for a continuum of care, which allows a patient to be placed into an appropriate individualized program. Industrial Rehabilitation may be a continuance of care started in an earlier phase or serve as the entry point into the functional restoration program. Our purpose is to "bridge the gap" between physical rehabilitation, return to work, injury prevention and case closure.

ITB Program
Intrathecal Baclofen (ITB) therapy is an effective FDA-approved treatment for severe spasticity, a frequent complication of stroke, MS, brain injury, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy or other neurological conditions that result in increased muscle tone. Patients receiving ITB therapy receive direct infusion of baclofen via a programmable pump. To be considered for this therapy, a patient must be evaluated by a physician to determine if he/she is appropriate.

Lymphedema Program
HealthSouth offers the latest techniques available in complex decongestive physiotherapy to treat lymphedema. Patients are evaluated by a certified lymphedema therapist who tests the presence and cause of the edematous limb(s) and assesses treatment options. Individualized treatment programs may include: manual lymph drainage, massage, and/or gradient sequential pump therapy, custom bandaging, recommendations for exercise and self care, family education, and procurement of needed day and/or night garments.

Neurorehabilitation
HealthSouth's Neurological Disorders Program meets the needs of patients with chronic progressive conditions such as Parkinson's disease, or acute remitting diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis. By following a rehabilitation plan designed to achieve functional gains, patients become more functionally independent and learn how to reduce the risk of future medical problems.

Orthopedics
Orthopedic rehabilitation treats musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. HealthSouth's pathway to recovery for patients with orthopedic conditions helps them achieve and maintain functional gains in a timely, cost-effective manner. The program is individualized according to a patient's needs, functional goals and extent of injury.

Pain Management
A Pain Management physician is available at HealthSouth Harmarville on a weekly basis. Steroid injections are provided after evaluation for medical necessity by this physician.

Pediatrics

Spinal Cord Injury
Spinal cord rehabilitation is an intricate and complicated process that requires a team of experts to enhance a patient's abilities on physical, cognitive and emotional levels. Based on a patient's limitations, our interdisciplinary team establishes an individualized treatment plan. Each plan of care incorporates specific methods that encourage the patient to develop pragmatic problem-solving approaches appropriate for his or her rehabilitation and continuing care.

Stroke
After many years of helping individuals recover from stroke, HealthSouth has established a stroke rehabilitation program to help patients achieve functional gains in a timely, cost-effective manner.
