Thomas Franz, M.D.
Dr. Franz is a specialist in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation with a focus on brain injury rehabilitation. A graduate of Indiana University Medical School, Dr. Franz completed his residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and has been a member of the medical staff at HealthSouth Harmarville since 1989. He is the president and CEO of ChoiceCare Physicians, PC. Dr. Franz also serves as clinical instructor at Mercy Hospital and a physiatry consultant at Remed Brain Injury Rehabilitation. He is a member of several professional societies and is a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Catherine M. Birk, M.D.
Dr. Birk is a specialist in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation with a focus on stroke, Parkinson’s disease and spasticity management. She is one of the few physicians in the area who program the Deep Brain Stimulator for control of Parkinson’s disease. She has been a member of the medical staff at HealthSouth Harmarville Rehabilitation Hospital since 1987 and a member of ChoiceCare Physicians group practice since 1990. Dr. Birk has presented educational and promotional information for the stroke program on behalf of HealthSouth Harmarville and ChoiceCare Physicians. She is on staff at various area hospitals and skilled nursing facilities. She has been on active staff at the Suburban Campus and the Alle-Kiski Medical Center since 2000 and Allegheny General Hospital since 2008. She is also on provisional staff at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital and has full privileges at St. Barnabas HealthSystem. Dr. Birk is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh Medical School and completed her residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. She is on the board of the American Parkinson’s Disease Association, Pittsburgh Area Chapter and member of multiple professional societies. Dr. Birk is board certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Brian Cicuto, D.O.
Dr. Cicuto is a consulting physician at HealthSouth Harmarville specializing in osteopathic medicine. He also serves as a consulting physician at UPMC St. Margaret. He holds a subspecialty certification in pain management, is certified in the Interpretation of Functional Capacity Examination (ADEP) and is a diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiolgy. He received his bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from Cleveland State University and his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree (D.O.) from Ohio State University. He served as an anesthesiology resident and pain management fellow at The Cleveland Clinic. He is a member of several professional organizations and holds D.O. licenses for Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Aimee Deinert, RN CRRN®
Director of Marketing and Operations
Aimee is the director of marketing and operations (DMO) at HealthSouth Harmarville and HealthSouth Sewickley
, with more than 18 years experience in marketing, management and nursing. As DMO, Aimee executes the daily operations of patient admissions, the sales team and marketing for the regional hospital system’s locations in Harmarville and Sewickley. Her professional experience in nursing and marketing proves useful in determining market opportunities and understanding the government regulations and criteria related to inpatient rehabilitation hospital services and admission of appropriate patients. Prior to her position as DMO, Aimee held positions including: clinical rehabilitation liaison for HealthSouth Harmarville, marketing and business development/community liaison for a home care agency and home health administrator for a healthcare services organization. She earned her diploma in nursing from St. Francis School of Nursing and was a staff nurse at St. Francis Hospital of New Castle and Ellwood City Hospital, as well as a clinical nurse manager at Personal Touch Home Care.
Jan Diehl RN MSN
Director of Home Health
Jan brings more than 40 years of nursing experience to HealthSouth. She has been in administration for over 30 years. She is a former RN diploma graduate. She obtained her BSN from Carlow University and has a master's degree in nursing from Indiana University of Pennslyvania. Her background is oncology for 14 years and hospice and home health since 1993. Her recent experience has been 13 years in regional operations positions. She is enjoying her time locally where she volunteers at her church and attends many activities with her three children, their spouses and four grandchildren.
Charles C. Greim, M.D.
Dr. Greim is a specialist in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation with a focus on brain injury rehabilitation. He is a former director of head injury services at HealthSouth Harmarville. He also serves as active staff at Allegheny General, courtesy staff at Butler Memorial Hospital and Alle-Kiski Medical Center, and secretary/treasurer of ChoiceCare Physicians, PC. Dr. Greim consults at Kindred Hospital Pittsburgh, North Shore. A graduate of Wayne State University School of Medicine, Dr. Greim completed his residency in internal medicine at MSU-Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies and physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at University of Michigan Hospitals. Dr. Greim has been a member of the ChoiceCare Physicians group practice since 1990 and has been on staff at HealthSouth Harmarville Rehabilitation Hospital since 1987. Dr. Greim is a member of multiple professional societies including the American Medical Association, Pennsylvania Medical Society, Allegheny County Medical Society and the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Bruce Kelly, M.D.
Spinal Cord and Multiple Sclerosis Program Director/Associate Medical Director
Dr. Kelly is a family practice physician with a focus on spinal cord injury and diseases. He has extensive experience in the management of spasticity, Baclofen pump management and wound care. He has completed research in paraplegic rehabilitation and intrathecal administration of Baclofen to treat spasticity. Dr. Kelly has presented educational sessions regarding management of medical problems in spinal cord injured patients and spasticity management. A graduate of Milton S. Hershey Medical Center of Penn State University, Dr. Kelly completed his residency in family practice at Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital. Dr. Kelly is a member of multiple professional societies and is a diplomate of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

James Kreshon, Jr., D.O.
Medical Director, Skilled Nursing Unit and Home Health
Dr. Kreshon is a specialist in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation with a focus on orthopedic, geriatric and amputee rehabilitation. He is the former medical director for the rehabilitation unit at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital. Dr. Kreshon currently serves on the executive board as the vice president for ChoiceCare Physicians. He has been a member of the medical staff at HealthSouth Harmarville and a member of ChoiceCare Physicians group practice since 2001. Dr. Kreshon has been on active staff at the West Penn Allegheny Health System, Suburban Campus, since 2001. He is also on staff at various area hospitals and skilled nursing facilities. Dr. Kreshon completed his residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He is a member of multiple professional societies and is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the Pennsylvania State Board of Osteopathic Medicine.

Director of Human Resources
Eric Larson brings more than 15 years of healthcare human resources experience to HealthSouth Harmarville. He serves as the hospital’s human resources director and oversees all benefits management, recruitment and retention, employee relations, compensation management, the volunteer program, and more. He received his B.S in business administration from Robert Morris University. He’s also earned the following certificates: Professional in Human Resources (PHR), Gerontology, MBA Essentials, and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) Type Competencies and is affiliated with the Pittsburgh Human Resources Association, Society of Healthcare and Human Resources Professionals of Pennsylvania, Society of Human Resources Management, and WorldatWork Total Rewards Association.
Karl Liebe, M.D.
Dr. Liebe serves as a staff member of Allegheny General Hospital, The Western Pennsylvania Hospital and Alle-Kiski Medical Center. He also has full clinical staff privileges at St. Barnabas Health System and Wexford House. A graduate of Loyola University of Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine, Dr. Liebe completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Liebe is a member of multiple professional societies and volunteers as medical staff at high school football games. He has been a ChoiceCare physician since 2008.

Certified Case Management Director
Denise has more than 20 years of experience in case management and social work services in the healthcare industry. Prior to working with HealthSouth Harmarville, Denise was the director of care management and director of social work services at UPMC Braddock. She received her undergraduate degree in sociology and holds dual master’s degrees in management and technology and business administration from Carlow College. She also holds a master’s degree in social work from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a board member and the president elect of the American Case Management Association and a member of several other professional organizations.
Health Information Management Services Director
Nancy brings over 15 years of healthcare experience to the 40 bed skilled nursing facility at HealthSouth Harmarville. Her experience as an administrator in skilled and long-term care has ranged from retirement communities to short-term rehabilitation units like the TCU. Prior to joining the team at HealthSouth Harmarville, Nancy served as the administrator of the 40-bed Transitional Care Center at LifeCare at Suburban Hospital in Bellevue and the administrator of the 388-bed Washington County Health Center in Washington, PA. She earned her bachelor’s degree at the Pennsylvania State University in human development and aging as well as her master’s degree in health administration at Pennsylvania State University. Nancy served as a board member for PACAH, the Pennsylvania Association of County Homes and participated in lobbying and policy making activities for long-term care. She has succeeded in obtaining grants for construction and other improvements such as electronic medical record systems. Nancy is an advocate of quality initiatives and services that enhance the lives of older adults.
Director of Quality Improvement and Risk Management
Nancy has over 35 years in healthcare experience.. She is responsible for helping to create an environment and culture within the hospital that enables the hospital to fulfill its mission by conveying hospital goals to staff, facilitating staff accountability for performance and motivating staff to make improvements. Nancy also manages and plans all aspects of quality and risk management by monitoring and evaluating the quality of patient care services within the hospital and ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies, accrediting bodies and HealthSouth standards. She earned her certification as a registered nurse from Shadyside Hospital School of Nursing and holds a bachelor’s degree in urban planning from California State University.
Mark Van Volkenburg
Director of Therapy Operations
Mark has been with HealthSouth Harmarville for more than 15 years and currently oversees clinical outcomes, therapy efficiency, therapy patient satisfaction, staff development, recruitment and retention and much more. He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Slippery Rock University and a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Pittsburgh. Mark is an active member of the Clinical Advisory Board for the Department of Physical Therapy Program at Duquesne University and a member of the Clinical Advisory Board for Physical Therapist Assistant Program at the Community College of Allegheny County. He has also been a guest lecturer at the University of Pittsburgh, Duquesne University, Chatham University, Slippery Rock University and Gannon University.
Dan is a Certified Public Accountant with more than 30 years of financial management experience in the healthcare industry. Dan worked for seven years in public accounting serving a broad spectrum of healthcare clients. His progressive experience in the private health care sector covers a wide variety of financial and administrative positions including seven years as a chief financial officer. Dan became a member of the HealthSouth team in 2011. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and an Advanced Member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
Sam A. Young, CRRN
Director of Nursing
Samuel has been with HealthSouth Harmarville for more than 15 years and has more than 40 years of experience in the healthcare field. His career experiences have afforded him ample experience in designing, opening and operating units and departments within the acute care and long-term care settings. His background includes medical surgical, rehabilitation, maternal child health, critical care and surgical suites. Carlow University chose to recognize his contribution as a nursing community leader in the Pittsburgh area by inducting him into Sigma Theta Tau, ETA Epsilon. Samuel received his bachelor’s degree health services from Point Park College and his master’s degree in public management with a focus on management of health systems from Carnegie Mellon University. He is a member of several professional organizations, advisory boards and committees. Samuel is certified as a rehabilitation nurse and also holds a certification in nursing administration.
